Education Center to hold lead abatement class

KETCHIKAN - Ketchikan Indian Community's Southern Southeast Alaska Technical Education Center has announced an eight-hour lead based paint renovation and repair class to be held on Jan. 13, 2012, at the center, which is located at 615 Stedman Street. Those successfully passing the course will earn a certificate, which is acknowledged nationwide by the Environmental Protection Agency. Chas Edwardson, KIC's Workforce Development Director, will teach the course.

KIC is the second Tribe in the nation to receive a certificate from the EPA allowing it to teach this certificated course. The agency has expressed an interest in utilizing the SSEATeC facility for future federally required classes and continuing education for the building industry.

A complete list of upcoming classes in early 2012 can be found at www.kictribe.org. On the website, residents are also invited to take a very short survey designed to measure interest in existing class offerings as well as offer their own class ideas.

SSEATeC is a training facility operated by Ketchikan Indian Community stressing relevant job training for those just joining the workforce, unemployed Alaskans and anyone wishing to improve their skills in order to advance in their chosen career path. For more information, call 228-9365.
