State Library supports Early Learning at public libraries

The Alaska State Library Anchorage office, through monies supplied by the legislature to support early learning, sent out this past week a collection of materials to 70 public libraries across the state. These materials were collected into kits that consisted of board books, toys and training materials to assist libraries with their efforts to provide early literacy opportunities to the youngest members of their community.

All told, over 3,500 pounds worth of books and educational toys were shipped out and will soon be in the hands of babies and toddlers across the state. The State Library is committed to early literacy through its support of the Ready to Read Resource Center http://www.readytoreadak.org/, which supplies lapsit bags, read to me tubs, read to me at home bags to families and early care and education professionals throughout the state.
