Mitkof Island Petersburg is the gateway to two incredible attractions, the humpback whales of Frederick Sound, and the mighty Le Conte Glacier. Prince of Wales Island This is the third largest island in the U.S. (Kodiak is first and the island of Hawaii is second) and a recreation paradise. There are over 1,100 miles of maintained roads to explore. The IFA provides year-round service from Ketchikan to Hollis on the island's mid section and summer service from Petersburg and Wrangell to Coffman Cove, on the island's northern coast. Good roads link Hollis and Coffman Cove with the island communities of Craig, Klawock, Hydaburg, Thorne Bay, Kasaan, Naukati, and Whale Pass. Most of these roads are blacktopped.
