Port Alexander School wins big in iDida contests

Education, creativity and fun all came together for Port Alexander School contributers that entered projects in a statewide competition: the Alaska Society for Technology in Education iDidaContest.

In 2011, creative Port Alexander students along with teachers Crystal and Ryan Nelson created so many exceptional videos and photos that they won more awards than any other school or district in the past two years.

In 2012 Port Alexander School went on to win eleven first place, five second place, three third place, one fourth place, one sixth place and one eighth place awards.

The Alaska Society for Technology in Education iDidaContest allows entries in video, photo, podcast, music and documentary categories. A non-profit organization since 1981, ASTE is a professional, technology association with the State of Alaska whose mission is to promote access to technology, connectivity to information resources and technology integration for all Alaskan learners.

Over the years, ASTE activities have included staff development to students, teachers, administration and community members through hands-on workshops, credit courses and seminars. ASTE projects have included statewide and regional mini-grants, newsletters, co-sponsorship with other professional organizations and supporting events tied to technology.
