Competitive grants available for suicide prevention

The Alaska Department of Education & Early Development announces a competitive grant application for funds for suicide awareness, prevention and postvention. The SAPP grant provides an opportunity for schools to support programs, practices, and policies that focus on State Suicide Prevention Plan Goals and Strategies.

The department intends to award approximately four grants if state funding is made available to the department. Grants up to $25,000 per year will be awarded. These awards will be made to Alaska school districts only. The department will fund only projects that primarily serve at-risk students as demonstrated by Youth Risk Behavior Survey results and regional suicide demographics.

The department will give competitive priority to projects that will serve at-risk students in alternative schools, correctional facilities, and regions that have had high suicide rates as reported by the state.

Applications are available at: https://education.alaska.gov/tls/suicide. Letters of Intent to Apply are encouraged by Feb. 3. The application period closes at 4 p.m. Alaska time on March 14. The department will host one technical assistance opportunity - details are available on the website listed above.
